Nelsonville Regional Sewer Plant
In 2017, the city of Nelsonville in Athens County needed to replace its aging wastewater treatment while Ohio EPA required the villages of Murray City and Carbonhill to stop discharging raw sewerage in to streams. Since the total cost to address all of this was going to be prohibitive, several meetings with Ohio’s Small Community Environmental Infrastructure Group (SCEIG) took place, representatives from the following agencies
- Buckeye Hills Regional Council
- County Commissioners Association of Ohio
- Ohio Development Services Agency
- Governor's Office of Appalachia
- Office of Community Development
- Ohio Environmental Protection Agency
- Ohio Public Works Commission
- Ohio Rural Community Assistance Program
- Ohio Water Development Authority
- U.S. Department of Agriculture/Rural Development
met with local officials from two counties, one city and two villages and their engineer to develop a regional wastewater system. This video tells the story of how this was accomplished.. A summary of the project is attached here.
Shared Resources between the city of Coshocton and the village of West Lafayette
The village of West Lafayette had an antiquated water treatment system and could not afford to replace it. The Shared Resources/Partnering Committee of the SCEIG was called upon to help bring together all funding agencies, technical assistance providers and environmental regulators to work with representatives of the city of Coshocton and the village of West Lafayette. After the benefits of shared resources and partnerships was presented to the leadership of both communities and a positive vote by the citizens of West Lafayette and after much negotiation, an agreement was create. This video shows how the SCEIG assisted two communities to come together.
